The Deep's debut album, Psychedelic Sounds was one of the first psychedelic records - it was released in October 1966 - and despite not selling many copies, was groundbreaking. It was the first album to have 'psychedelic' in the title.
Released on Cameo-Parkway Records it never got the exposure it warranted
The band's sound is a melting pot of influences, from the blues to garage rock to folk rock, but it's all filtered through a psychedelic lens that creates a unique noise.
The Deep were a short-lived band. They released 'Psychedelic Soul' the following year, changing their name to the very groovy The Freak Scene but it also flopped and they disbanded. But this album has an important place in rock music history.
